Finding makeup that works well on mature skin without sinking into or emphasizing fine lines can be a challenge, especially when it comes to complexion products. But if you’ve been on the lookout, look no further: We found a foundation and concealer stick that’s easy to apply and easy to love, according to reviewers.
Merit’s The Minimalist perfecting complexion stick straddles the line between foundation and concealer — so if you’re tired of having both steps in your makeup routine, you can combine them into one.
The cream stick has a rounded tip, making it easy to get into small crevices of the face and apply the product mess-free. With ingredients like fatty acids and sea daffodil extract, the stick is moisturizing and can reduce temporary redness and the appearance of dark spots.
The Minimalist is made for light-to-medium coverage and is buildable to create a natural look without settling into fine lines. It can also double as a contour stick if you’d like to do a little sculpting of the face — just grab another stick that’s one to two shades darker than your normal complexion shade.
Even celebrity makeup artists have given the Minimalist their stamp of approval: Makeup artist Molly Greenwald confirmed that she used the stick (in the shade Amber), along with other Merit products, on actress Ayo Edebiri for her glam look at the Sundance premiere of Edebiri’s film “Opus” on Jan. 27.
HuffPost editorial director Kristen Aiken, 43, can personally vouch for the Minimalist’s natural appearance and high quality.

“As a teenager I was endlessly bullied for covering up my acne with foundation, so now that I’m a grownup I like a ‘no-makeup makeup’ look — I’ll do anything to avoid drawing attention to my face,” she said. “But I have dry skin, so it’s tough to find a natural-looking formula that evens out my skin tone without sitting on top of my skin or highlighting how big my pores are. A few years ago I started wearing Merit’s foundation stick, and I haven’t gone back to using anything else.”
“You can draw on your face like it’s a crayon, but it’s not waxy like a crayon — it’s creamy and blends in seamlessly, and doesn’t drip to areas of my face where I don’t want it. I can just apply a couple dots or I can layer it on for fuller coverage when I need it. I’ve recently gifted some to my 74-year-old mom, who rarely wears makeup but has been feeling a little sickly-looking lately without a little help, and she absolutely loves it.”
She’s not the only one who loves this product for her complexion. Plenty of reviewers of all skin types have sang the Minimalist’s praises as well.

“Natural look for over 40 mature skin. I absolutely love the Minimalist stick. A little goes a long way for just the right amount of natural looking coverage. I’ve made the switch to clean products over 10 years ago and am always looking for ones with minimal ingredients. Not only do I suffer from chemical sensitivities, I’m also highly allergic to several plant based ingredients. So far this stick hasn’t caused any irritation. I paired it with the bronzer balm and flush balm and love the 5 minute easy routine with just a few additional products.” — James M.
“I’ve been looking for a cream foundation for mature skin. This has great coverage but isn’t too heavy and doesn’t settle into fine lines like liquid and powders. I can have my foundation on and blended in less time which is also a plus.” — Robilow
“Loved! Didn’t oxidize what so ever (my biggest concern with concealer/foundation). Its great for both young and mature skin, my go to!” — 4nnika
“I love how easy and effortless this foundation and concealer stick blends into my skin. It is so creamy and very light feeling. It is perfect for my everyday natural makeup look. I am 43 and my mature skin can look crepey with some products, but it doesn’t with Merit. LOVE IT!” — ErinLJ1281
“UNBELIEVABLE! Perfect match! Gives my face and neck a beautiful blurred natural appearance. I’m 75+ and this is the first product to just melt into my skin making wrinkles less noticeable. Lasts all day without touch ups but is easily removed with soap and water. I LOVE MERIT MINIMALIST PERFECTING COMPLEXION FOUNDATION!” — stevesharon

Even using lip liner doesn’t guarantee I won’t have my lipstick running into those lines after a couple hours. This product eliminates that problem altogether. And I don’t have to use a lip liner with it! It stays on well while eating, drinking, and best of all, kissing! I bought this color and the purple one, and they’re buildable and easy to apply with precision.” — Barbara
“I’m 50 this yr and with fine lines and shrinking lips its been hard for me to find a realistic looking color stain that doesn’t make the problem worse. This is a win! I bought 2 colors.” — Smothered.hope

It is also buildable for a deeper tint. Compared to other eye tints I’ve used, this is better. It doesn’t bleed into the fine lines/wrinkles around my eyes. It doesn’t crease. Ulta
A blurring powder that won’t settle into fine lines
This translucent loose setting powder is made with silky, finely milled and plant-derived particles for an undetectable finish that melts into the skin, while also blurring pores, fine lines and texture. The conditioning formula contains antioxidants vitamin C and E, and comes in four sheer shades.
Promising Laura Mercier review: “Hands down the best. I prefer this one over some of the others. This one has just the right amount of illuminating properties without being ‘sparkly’ or ‘glittery.’ It’s the grown up version of ‘glowing up.’ It doesn’t settle into the wrinkles but reflects and redirects the light so you have a flawless finish and photograph amazingly in those phone photos and selfies. Plus…it lasts forever. A little goes a super long way. Not cakey. Very light and even feels hydrating for a powder. Doesn’t dry out skin or feel like it’s taking away the glow or dewiness of the foundation underneath, but truly setting it while keeping the glow and moisturized and youthful look. I’m in my 40s and every time I do full makeup and set with this powder, I get asked what I’m using to look younger and compliments on my skin tone (and I have very blemished, scarred, and uneven skin tone underneath). This is perfect for ‘airbrush’ effect on blemishes. First I do foundation, then a drop of my cream concealer and with a small concealer brush, I dip into the powder and tape lightly on the blemish to ‘bake’ the area. It really does blur it and make it nearly unnoticeable. I will turn my car around and go home to get this powder if I ever forget it and think I might need to cover a blemish at some point while I’m away from home. It is a makeup bag staple and goes everywhere with me. Don’t hesitate. Buy this.” — Becca

I set it with the Laura Mercier translucent powder, and it stays all day! Love it!” — hirie714
